Identifying the top 10 skincare brands in the world is harder than it sounds, because the most popular and trending brands are not always the most effective. My top 10 skin care company list is based on effectiveness, taking into consideration research trials, basic science, formulation science, and the results I see with my patients and followers on Reddit at r/skintypesolutions, where we discuss which products work best for each skin type.

With over 25,000 skincare brands in the U.S. alone but only about 25 major ingredient suppliers, you might ask: "Are all skincare brands the same, or are some companies truly superior?" These 10 skin care brands are truly superior due to their ingredient content, patented delivery systems, and targeted approach to skin concerns.

As a dermatologist evaluating the best skincare companies through a clinical lens, I'll distinguish between brands that are simply popular and those that are truly worth the price and are effective. One important caveat: a brand might master one specific technology such as exosomes, growth factors, or Vitamin C, but that doesn't make the brand's entire product line a home run. In fact, many of the secondary products are below average or terrible!  Instead of brand loyalty, I recommend cherry-picking the "hero products" from each of the best skincare brands and combining them into a regimen tailored to your Baumann Skin Type®.

There are many best selling skin care brands around the world. But "bestselling" does not mean the same as "effective". Which of these bestselling brands work best? The best brands have superior formulations or unique ingredients. 

These are the brands that I choose to use for my patients in my dermatology practice in Miami. Keep reading to see the best brands by skin concern.

For those struggling with acne, consistent use of targeted skin care products is essential. You need products that are:

• antimicrobial (kill bacteria and Malassezia)
• a retinoid to block TLR-2 receptors
• hormone regulator (if increased testosterone is causing the acne)

Some of the bestselling acne skincare brands worldwide include Proactiv, Murad, CeraVe, La Roche-Posay, Paula's Choice, Clinique, Neutrogena, and Differin. Proactiv offers multi-step acne treatment systems with benzoyl peroxide to kill acne bacteria. Murad has acne kits with salicylic acid and sulfur to clear pores. CeraVe and La Roche-Posay use non-comedogenic formulas ideal for acne-prone skin. Paula's Choice features BHAs like salicylic acid to gently exfoliate. Clinique's acne solutions line dries up excess oil. Neutrogena has acne washes with micronized benzoyl peroxide. And Differin contains prescription-strength adapalene to prevent breakouts.

1. CLN- Sodium hypochlorite targets bacterial and fungal acne gently and can be used by dry sensitive skin types.
2. Hydrinity- This brand has a strong retinol and a HA mist containing hypochlorous acid (HOCl) to control acne causing bacteria.
3. La Roche Posay- The Effaclar line treats acne. They have several salicylic acid containing acne treatments. Adapalene is a prescription acne medication that is found in a lower doses in LRP products.  If you cannot see a dermatologist to get a prescription retinoid, try the Effaclar with Adapalene.
4. Obagi Clenizerm- Has a good benzoyl peroxide 5% lotion and a Salicylic acid Pore therapy to clean out pores.
5. Jan Marini- This brand has very strong retinols, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid containing acne treatments.
6. PCA Skin- This brand was started by a dermatologist. They have a good Salicylic acid acne gel and a blemish control bar that my patients with oily skin love.
7. Replenix- This brand is often private labelled by doctors and given another name.  They have many acne treatments with benzoyl peroxide, and AHA and salicylic acid treatments.  They also have very good retinols.

Make sure you know which of the 16 Skin Types you are so that you can build an acne skin care routine that is right for your skin type.  Otherwise, you might experience dryness and irritation- especially if you have dry and sensitive skin and acne.

Before spending hundreds of dollars on luxury moisturizers like Crème de la Mer, La Prairie, or Sisley, it's crucial to identify your Baumann Skin Type and see if you are oily or dry before choosing a moisturizer.

3. La Roche-Posay Anthelios is one of the best selling skincare brands. However, the Anthelios SPF in the USA is not the same as the ones you can find in french pharmacies. So if you go to Europe, stock up on the better version there.
4. Pavise- They make a vegan sunscreen that contains diamonds and is SPF 30 and reef safe. It is great for rosacea-prone sensitive skin. I love this light sheer sunscreen that is a bestseller in my medical practice and here at Skin Type Solutions. My patients love that it is so light that you do not feel like you have a sunscreen on.
