Key ingredients
4-Butylresorcinol is a resorcinol derivative and potent tyrosinase inhibitor that reduces melanin production by blocking enzymes involved in pigmentation, including tyrosinase and tyrosinase-related protein-1 (TRP-1). Used to treat melasma, dark spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, it helps even skin tone. It may cause irritation, particularly in sensitive skin.
Cetyl Tranexamate Mesylate is a lipid-soluble derivative of tranexamic acid used to lighten hyperpigmentation and improve uneven skin tone. Its lipophilic structure enhances penetration into the skin, where it helps reduce melanin production by interfering with pathways that stimulate melanocytes. It is used to treat melasma, dark spots, and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation.

Diglucosyl gallic acid
Diglucosyl gallic acid is a biotech ingredient converted by the skin's microbiome into trihydroxy benzoic acid. This antioxidant and tyrosinase inhibitor blocks pro-inflammatory mediators and neutralizes free radicals, soothing irritation and providing photoprotection. It brightens and lightens skin, reduces inflammation, and protects against UV damage. It is used in skincare to minimize redness and dark spots and protect skin from aging.
Decarboxy Carnosine HCl is a modified derivative of carnosine that helps protect skin from free radicals, oxidative stress, and glycation, processes that damage collagen and accelerate skin aging. Unlike carnosine, it is more resistant to breakdown by the enzyme carnosinase, potentially providing longer-lasting antioxidant protection. Although it may be more stable than carnosine, studies have not established that it provides stronger antioxidant or anti-aging benefits.
Superoxide Dismutase (SOD) is a powerful antioxidant enzyme that protects skin cells from free radical damage caused by UV radiation, pollution, and environmental stressors. Unlike traditional antioxidants, SOD converts harmful superoxide radicals into hydrogen peroxide, which other antioxidant enzymes break down. By reducing oxidative stress and inflammation, SOD may also help prevent inflammation-induced pigmentation, dark spots, and premature skin aging.

Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside
Epigallocatechin Gallatyl Glucoside (EGCGG), a stabilized derivative of epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) from green tea, is known for its powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It works by neutralizing free radicals and protecting skin cells from oxidative stress caused by environmental aggressors, such as UV radiation and pollution. EGCGG is used in skincare to reduce inflammation, soothe irritated skin, and prevent premature aging. The added glucose component enhances its stability, making it more stable than EGCG (green tea extract) in skin care.

A soothing, moisturizing ingredient that protects skin and reduces redness. Often used in rosacea products or products for sensitive skin.

Combines with fatty acids and cholesterol to repair skin barrier

Cholesterol is a lipid that makes up the skin barrier. Cholesterol is usually combined with ceramides and fatty acids in barrier repair moisturizers. It is often an animal derived ingredient. If you prefer a vegan form of cholesterol look for beta sitosterol which is a natural form of cholesterol.

Derived from the licorice plant, this natural skin lightener is gentle enough for sensitive skin types to use. It has antioxidant and anti inflammatory skin benefits. It is used to calm skin and treat dark spots. It lightens skin by blocking tyrosinase.

A component of chamomile that is soothing, moisturizing, and humectant

Ethylhexylglycerin
Ethylhexylglycerin is a multifunctional cosmetic ingredient used as a skin-conditioning agent and preservative booster. Derived from glycerin and ethylhexyl alcohol, it enhances preservative effectiveness, allowing for lower concentrations and reducing irritation. It also acts as a mild surfactant and emollient, improving skin hydration and smoothness while providing antimicrobial protection. Ethylhexylglycerin is found in gentle formulations as irritation is rare, even in sensitive skin types, with no cross-reactivity for those allergic to parabens or formaldehyde.
Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, also called Argireline, is marketed as a topical Botox alternative, but it is unlikely to penetrate deeply enough to reach facial muscles and reduce contractions. Although its claimed biological effects remain unproven, it may provide a temporary smoothing effect, similar to fondant icing on a cake, making skin appear firmer and wrinkles less noticeable. This cosmetic benefit may explain its popularity.

Glycerin (Glycerol) is the best natural moisturizing ingredient to hydrate skin quickly. May give products a sticky feel.

Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride
Combination of hydrating coconut oil and glycerin to moisturize skin.

Glyceryl Stearate
A combination of glycerin and stearic acid to hydrate skin. A humectant and occlusive moisturizer.
