  Avobenzone (Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane) is an oil-soluble organic sunscreen filter that provides broad-spectrum protection by absorbing UVA1 (340–400 nm) and UVA2 (320–340 nm) wavelengths, with peak absorption around 357–360 nm. Because avobenzone is photounstable, it is typically formulated with photostabilizers such as octocrylene or newer stabilizing technologies to maintain UV protection. As an oil-soluble filter, it is commonly incorporated into water-resistant sunscreen formulations.
