It’s often included in formulations for its fragrance. However, orange peel oil can be problematic in leave-on products for sensitive skin types with conditions like rosacea. It contains compounds like limonene and citral, which may irritate sensitive or compromised skin, making it less suitable in serums and moisturizers for rosacea-prone individuals. Additionally, orange peel oil can cause phytophotodermatitis, a skin reaction when certain citrus oils are exposed to sunlight. This can lead to burns, blisters, and hyperpigmentation. Due to this risk, it’s best to avoid using orange peel oil before sun exposure or on sensitive skin. These issues are not a concern in rinse off products like cleansers.
