Frequently Asked Questions
How is Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral Sunscreen different from Alastin Silk Shield?
Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral Sunscreen is a hydrating sunscreen with a buttery texture, offering a tinted, soft-glow finish. It contains both titanium dioxide and zinc oxide for broad-spectrum protection and iron oxides to protect skin from blue light.
Alastin Silk Shield, by contrast, is a lightweight, transparent sunscreen with only zinc oxide and provides a sheer, non-tinted finish. Both formulas contain antioxidants, including Phytoene and Phytofluene from Dunaliella Salina
Extract, that protect against pollution. The main differences are in the finish and texture—HydraTint is more moisturizing and tinted and provides more blue light protection, while Silk Shield is lighter and untinted. Both are non-comedogenic, hypoallergenic, and water-resistant for 40 minutes.
What skin tones is this moisturizing tinted sunscreen best for?
The tint is a little dark for very fair skin types such as
Fitzpatrick Type 1 unless you want to look like you have a tan. Tint is best for Fitzpatrick Skin Types 2 and 3. Lighter skin types may like the glow this gives the skin.
Does this sunscreen block blue light?
Yes it has iron oxides which help it block blue light.
Is this sunscreen good for melasma?
Yes this tinted sunscreen helps cover melasma and has iron oxides to help protect the skin from blue light from your phone which is known to worsen melasma. It is a better susncreen for melasma than the Alastin Silk Shield because of the iron oxides.
Is this tinted sunscreen chemical free?
This SPF has no chemical sunscreen filters so it is reef safe, marine safe, and pregnancy safe.
The Alastin HydraTint Pro Mineral Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 36 is marketed as containing Phytoene and Phytofluene, but these ingredients are not
listed on the label. Why is this?
Phytoene and Phytofluene are present in the formulation, but they are not listed separately because they are derived from Dunaliella Salina
Extract, which is included on the label. This extract is naturally rich in these carotenoids.
