Laser assisted hair reduction in Skin of Colour

Laser hair removal in skin of colour is safe and effective when the right type of laser is used and properly trained personnel perform the procedure.
I personally have been using a long pulsed Nd: YAg laser for more than 10 years now and have excellent results with no side effects.
I would advise use of machines with in built cooling and avoid the use of IPL machines and even diodes in dark skin types.
As per scientific studies conducted all over the world, the Nd:YAG laser is the preferred machine for long term hair reduction skin of colour.
Typically one would need anywhere forom 8 to 12 sittings approximately 4 weeks apart to achieve about a 60 to 80% reduction in the hair growth.
It is an excellent treatment and effective and long lasting results can improve one’s self confidence tremendously.

    Dr. Sachdev,

I have looked into possibly getting treatments using the Alexandrite laser, what are your experiences of this laser on skin of colour?

I agree that, if able to achieve a noticeable reduction, laser treatment can increase one’s confidence.

    Thank you.

    HI,
I do not use the Alexandrite or the diode as I find the treatments more painful than the Nd:Yag;they can be used if you have a slightly fairer skin but in my opinion, the Nd;Yag is a safer option in skin of colour.
Check that your doctor is working with skin of colour and you will be safe!

    Hi

I have had great results with an ND:Yag for upper-lip, underams and bikini. I’m glad that you are confirming my decision to go this route rather than the IPL my current derm has in her office.

Now I am looking into a laser treatment for my acne scars. I have some shallow depressions as will as some ice-pick scarring on both checks. What laser would be safe for skin of color?

    Thank you.

    Hi
We are using the PIXEL laser- a fractional erbium for acne scars with good results.
It should be done by a demratologist with experience in dealing with skin of colour and with adequate precautions gives great results.
    Thanks
